Microsoft announced that, beginning today the Xbox will receive a price cut at retail outlets throughout North America. The new price is $149.99 in the United States, $199.99 in Canada, and $1,999 pesos in Mexico. Microsoft also announced that it has lowered the retail price on several popular software offerings including Xbox Music Mixer, Voodoo Vince and Grabbed by the Ghoulies for $19.99. Games like Project Gotham Racing 2, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Counter-Strike will be available tomorrow for $29.99.

Microsoft also announced today that it has expanded its Platinum game label program by adding a new subset of games geared towards the whole family. Dubbed The Platinum Family Hits program, the first games to be featured in its line-up include Finding Nemo (THQ), and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Electronic Arts). Several E-rated titles will be added to the Platinum Family Hits product line each calendar year.
