As many of you may already be aware (especially those of you who purchased Crackdown), the Halo 3 beta is just around the corner. Beginning on May 16 and continuing through June 6, Microsoft and Bungie are offering up a handful of maps for eager and lucky Xbox 360 owners to dominate in a pre-release version of Halo 3.

As both a tremendous Halo and Microsoft fanboy, nothing could be more exciting to me. As such, we at GameSpy are putting a massive effort into forging an exceptional month of coverage to deliver every possible detail of the Halo 3 beta. We have a lot planned (too much, in fact, for me to outline here) and there are a lot of things that remain shrouded in mystery even from us, but I will say that we are planning on incorporating most of our newly developed columns. If you are fortunate enough to make it into the beta, be sure to add GabeSpy (my public gamertag) to your friends list so that you can participate in one of the many 'Spy-Hunter features (where you get to mow down GameSpy editors as though we were vast fields of delicate wheat) we have planned throughout the duration of the beta.

Good Will 'Spy-Hunting

As I just mentioned, I'm going to try to focus on the Halo experience in the month of May by making the 'Spy-Hunter column all about Halo for most of the month. I and the rest of the GameSpy team are starting on Wednesday May 9 at 7 p.m. PST with a 'Spy-Hunter event where we'll play Halo 2, just to get back into that Spartan mindset. If you'd like to participate, please be sure to grab all of the maps, as we're hoping to run the whole gamut (and I personally have not spent enough time with the two new maps that were just released). So, there's one 'Spy-Hunter where I'd imagine that everyone reading this column could easily participate (unless you live in a place where 7 p.m. PST is some hellishly early or late time of day locally - but don't fret, I've got good news coming up for all of you non-US residents).

On May 16 and May 30, both Wednesdays, at 7 p.m. PST, we'll hold 'Spy-Hunter events in the Halo 3 beta, so those lucky few of you who made it in will have the opportunity to play the hottest-looking new FPS with the hottest-looking game editors in the business. Of course, that's barring any unforeseen calamities that may make the whole business impossible (I can't think of any off-hand, but that's why they're "unforeseen"). On top of that, we're planning to offer another 'Spy-Hunter at a time more amenable to our non-US dwelling readers. We're still nailing down details as to what times and dates will work best, but I'll be sure to keep you posted on this as it develops.

Judging by the success of the last two 'Spy-Hunter events (featuring Gears of War and Lost Planet), I'm delighted to be bringing the column and Halo 3 together. With a little luck, all of our hard work and plotting will result in lots of great content for you guys. Be sure to keep your eyes on the 'Spy-Hunter column (a new one goes live next Wednesday!) for further details.
