Seeing as how we'll all have to wait until next year for Bungie's incredibly sweet Halo 2 it occurred to me that I just might be playing one of the better Xbox games we'll see until then. With the deluge of games this great industry churns out, I've long since resigned myself to the fact that I can't keep track of every single one from inception to release. Thus I was relatively unacquainted with Brute Force as recently as a week ago, when Raymond asked me to check out an updated version of it. While at first Brute Force seemed to be overly simplistic, further play revealed it to be a fairly interesting squad-based shooter with a lot of potential to entertain and amaze during the long wait for Halo 2. If there's one thing I've learned in my career as a game critic, it's that gamers love frogs. Yet for some reason, most publishers are wary of casting amphibians in its games. Microsoft defies the norm and dares to be great with Brute Force. Never mind that the title features unique tactical-action gameplay that utilizes the abilities of four distinct characters in both single-player and cooperative modes.
