GameSpy: Will there be vehicles on the maps? I know that a big chunk of the single player campaign involves vehicles. Are you going to be able to hop in a tank or anything like that?
Thaine Lyman: You know, it was one of the things that was on the drawing board when we first started talking about it, but we ultimately settled into just ground combat, infantry versus infantry. We'll sort of hold on to vehicles until the next thing. What we're really trying to do, if you've played the PC version of Call of Duty multiplayer, there's a lot of similarities between the modes and styles and all of that. You get to do the same sort of stuff. The idea was to give people on the console who haven't seen a lot of variety when it comes to online shooter gameplay. It's pretty much just one on each sort of platform. We want to give them something different, something fun to play with. We're not going to replace Halo or Halo 2 for their multiplayer, but we at least want to be a game that you'll play online as well.
GameSpy: Are there any features that are unique to either platform, such as clan support on the Xbox?

Thaine Lyman: The system link add was really the big thing for the Xbox, because that's a big thing on that, you know, with the Halo LAN parties and stuff like that. That's a lively and growing niche, but with PS2 it doesn't seem like that's become a popular thing to do yet. So that's really been the big change. Other than that, we've stuck with the same content. We figured that if we build it, we want people to enjoy it. Of course, the GameCube guys don't get any multiplayer at all. You know, we'd love to do it if there was a network to put it on.
GameSpy: How about stat tracking? Can you see your stats online, or is it pretty much game by game?
Thaine Lyman: It's game by game. Call of Duty is a single player game, it's a single player experience, but we've given people something that they can go in and have fun and blast each other with. We're not a game that's multiplayer focused. To do that thing, and to really do it justice... There's not a lot of games out there, on the console side, that have really been able to make multiplayer the big part without sacrificing part of the single player.
