Reuters is reporting that Microsoft is getting close to selling the rights to Halo for an adaptation on the big screen.

According to the report, some studios have been discouraged due to the high price for the rights as well as the demands for creative input from Microsoft.

The bidding began on Monday when scripts were delivered to various studios by couriers wearing the same costume that was worn by the Master Chief, the protagonist of the Halo series.

The conditions presented by Microsft were a payment of $10 million for the script with an additional 15 percent of the box office sales, discouraging many studios from picking up the property.

Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox have been rumored to team up, extending the best deal offered to Microsoft at this point, with an initial payment of $5 million with 10 percent of the initial box office earnings, though these reports haven't been confirmed.

A formal announcement is expected to be made next week.
